UPDATE ON MAGGIE

Thank you so much for all the prayers sent to me.  I just wanted to tell you as of this morning I am back to my normal self!!!  I had a rough day yesterday but after a good nights sleep I no long have hives all over me or is my face swollen up like a beach ball.  Poor dad here he thought he was doing something good for me and I had to have a bad reaction on his watch!  Mom did not even chew him out cos it wasn't his fault.

We don't really know what happened...it could have been to many shots at one time, or since Mom calls them the stoopid vet they could have screwed up the dosage...all I know is one minute Dad and I are on our way home, after I got my nails cut like a good girl, my butt done like a good girl, and my shots like a good girl....well Gussie and Stellie were so happy to see me cos I was gone like 14 minutes and they missed me.  I was telling them what all happened to me, and the next thing I knew I couldn't get my breath very good and my face was swelling up.  See those wrinkles on my face, well by the time Mom got home which was only 10 min. after I started to react my face was huge, and she couldn't see my eyes, and all my skin was red.  Even the skin inside my ears, and on my tummy!  I had hives all over my legs and head and back.  Well, Mom scooped me up and ran out to the stoopid vet. They gave me ANOTHER shot of predisone and some benadryl pills to take around supper time.

I wouldn't stop itching tho most of the day.  Dad stayed home wif me and when Momma came home she gave me the rest of my med's.  My face was still pretty swollen up at 4:30 and I was still hivey and itchy.  Mom was afraid I would have to go back out to the Vet.  I took my pills like a good girl tho, and tried to go to sleep but just couldn't get comfortable.  PLUS Gussie wanted me to play wif him and he kept bugging me.

Finally Mom had Dad get the air mattress out and she made a comfy bed for hers and me to rest on while we all watched tv.  I slept for awhile but was still itchy.  BUT this morning when we all woke up magically I was healed, no hives, no lumps or bumps and no swelling of the face!!  I ran out to my food bowl and ate my breakfast right up.  I finks it was cos of all those prayers coming my way and snuggling up to momma all night long.

No more shots for me at the stoopid vet anymore.  Mom says from now on we only get things like that at the good vet, and she is going to tell him what happened so they can work out a different plan for me.

  1. Been worried about you! Please have your humans get the shot manufacturer info and avoid them in the future. Our little ones dont get all the shot because of bad reactions.

  2. YEA fur YOU Margaret. WE Knew you would be FINE as soon as you got the Benadryl stuffs in you. We each had ONE shot yesterday also. ...and even though mom only allows One at a time... she STILL took the Benadryl pills along with her.... Just In Case.
This is somethingy that just Happens to some of us... not anybuddy's Fault... butt getting all the shots at ONCE Can cause a reaction...
WE are just THIRLLED that you are A-OKAY NOW.

  3. Maggie bless your sweet little Pug heart. My human sis's first cat had severe reactions to shots once. They finally determined she could only get one shot at a time. And your know Puddles had reactions to shots too. Lots of kitty purrs

  4. Goodness girlfurend! I couldn't believe it when I read your message this morning. This is the furst time this has ever happened to Muffin too and wow, it was really scary. Poor little thing couldn't stop barfing all over the place. It started at 3am with her doing it right next to Mommy's face. Then it continued for 1/2 hour all over the house. Mommy called the Vet at around 3:15am and they said to bring her right in. Thank goodness our Vet is also the E-Vet here in town. So now we all gotta wake up and go for a ride. The Vet gave Muffin 2 shots and lot's of fluid under her skin. She came out looking like a hunchback. Now she's on 2 med's and also probiotics for the next few days.

Between Grandpa Bob and Muffin, Mommy is exhausted and about to lose her mind!

We are so happy to hear that Mag's is doing so much better this morning! We will keep her in our POTP prayers so that she continues to stay well. We're sorry that you had to go thru this.

    Hugs,
    Lily Belle

  5. Sorry I missed this yesterday Maggie. I'm glad you are ok now. I bet you just felt miserable. With those hives. Daisy had them a month ago and was so uncomfortable. Luckily hers cleared up right after her shot from the vet.

  16. Maggie I am so glad you are back to your wonderful self today-not that you weren't wonderful yesterday, just not feeling good. I know your mom and dad were terrified! Was the stupid vet someone new or a shot clinic? I have heard so many stories of puppers reacting to shots. I hope your good vet gets it all figured out-maybe you won't need those shots ever again.

  17. We got behind reading and just now heard! That's so scary - but we're thankful you're back to normal today! When I had all of my boosters, I had an allergic reaction, too -- and my mom said I looked like a very sad Sharpei! Our mom called the vet right away and I had to take Benedryl for a while. Now we split up when I get my shots (by 2 weeks) and I take a Benedryl an hour before we go. One of my litter mates had the same thing happen! SCARY STUFF!!!
I think umm.... having extra treats helps, too. Please tell that to your mom! Ha roo roo roo!
    Yours sincerely,

  21. We are sooooooooo happy that you are well again. That VET needs to know what can happen to pups. We heard of another pup in Blogville this morning who is having a reaction, too. We know some peeps who have the needles a week or so apart, instead of all at once.

Now, we think you need LOTS of cuddles and treats (Stare at dad, 'cause he may feel guilty and will get the treats flowing.)

  24. we had almost the exact situation 11 years ago with Tubby when he was 2. It was due to too many shots at once. Since then I do minimal shots and we space htem out

  26. Whew, so glad to hear you are better. Mom once had a little pup who had a bad reaction to some shots. That was many years ago and the vet said he thought it was a reaction to the particular manufacturer of the shots. So after that he never had that brand and did just fine. But we do hear that with some dogs it is best to space out the shots. Hope you never have to go through that again.

  29. Hi Miss Maggie- I'm so happy you are feeling better, little girl. Its bad enough you had to get those yucky shots, and get your nails cut, and get your butt done, but to then have a bad reaction to the shots, sheesh! Hope those bad ol' itchies and hives stay away.
