UPDATE

Yesterday Dad and Mom went back to the UNI for another doc. visit.  They said his spine looks good, and that everything was in place ...that they do not foresee any need for surgery in the future.  They showed them the xrays and you could see where one vertebra had burst and the other breaks, so the bones are very slow healing.  It has been  6 weeks.    One of the doc's said it could take a whole year until he has recovered, and that it may not ever be the same.

He is going to start PT on his neck and left shoulder next week. They are thinking the brace is pulling his body forward and this is causing these new issues.  He also can take his brace off for one hour in the morning, afternoon and evening.  He tried it last night and after the hour was more than ready to put it back on.......his back muscles are very weak.

We may get some snow tomorrow night, so Mom said at least she does not haf to worry anymore about dad having to drive on bad roads.........that is the silver lining to this fiasco...........lol.......

Dad is working on car models to keep himself busy.  What that really means is Mom comes home, to paint that WILL NOT wash off on her table and chair and anything else it happens to land on.  It also means that the house smells like paint thinner.  Our Dad is the grown up version of that little boy "pig pen" on Charlie Brown.  Mom has to bite her tongue, a few nights ago we finks she drew blood.   Today mom ran down to the gas station and gots him lots of newspapers to lay all over the place............................

We will try to be around more next week, ............we know everyone is super busy this time of the year.....hugs and our love...............stella rose and momma

  7. That is encouraging that the bones are healing although slowly. It is crazy how our muscles weaken so fast, but each day should be better
Good your dad has projects to work on so he doesn't go stir crazy and the newspapers should help!

  8. Dear Stella,
I am happy dancin' that your daddy is on the mend. Yes, it will be a long haul and he may never be 100% again. . . but those are pretty minor bumps in the long long road of life. Wishing you so much good happenings going forward.

  9. We are glad to hear your dad is feeling better. We are keeping our paws crossed for however long he needs our POTP. Those model car things sound like a great idea to keep him occupied except of course for the mess.

  12. Our Dad likes to work on stinky projects too. Ghostwriter makes him do them in the garage if it involves anything that smells like paint. She also says she knows how long it takes for people to get better from bad injuries. No matter how bad it seems now, the time will go by and before you know it, things will be all better.

  14. Oh my word this is excellent new on your Dad's healing progress.
PT will be worth it..it might be hard but tell him to stick too it.
It worked miracles on my sweet BIL...he was paralyzed on the right side after the stroke...in November 2013 and by April 2014 he was walking and talking and do everything he used to do.
We saw your email and sent you one in return. I'm very excited
    Hugs madi your bfff

  15. That is wonderful to hear the good report on Dad's healing, but it is a shame it is going to be such a long process for full recovery. We hope Dad can find some other less messy projects to keep him busy:)

It will be busy here next week too. And Mom says until the New Year, life will be very busy. We just all have to do what we can to keep in touch.
