UPDATE

Dietzman will be going back to the Vet today for another checkup.  We brought him home this weekend so we could have that time to spend with him, and him with us.  The vet wanted him to eat at least one of his cans of K/D a day and she said it would be great if he would eat two.  Well, Dietz has always liked to eat, so I did not think it would be a problem.

Dietzman slept a lot on Saturday and I am sure he was worn out from the IV's and poking etc. that was done to him.  He likes to lay in the dog crate in the family room with us, so I brought him in and warmed the pugs that they needed to be good.  I took Maggie and Gussie for a nice long muddy walk so they wouldn't be bouncing around and barking.  I should have given them all more credit, they were just fine around him, they understood.

Later, he ate about a tsp of his food, and wouldn't drink anything for me.  On Sunday he wanted to stay in the crate, or just lay on the couch in the livingroom.  We tried several things for him to eat but he was not interested, he drank a few times for me.

I honestly believed if I brought him home, that would be the magic pill that would make him better.  I understood he was very sick, BUT I thought he was going to get better, it would just take time.  I did not think about him being 18 years old, and that he is tired.

So I am waiting once again, for the Vet to call me and we will have a discussion.  When I look at Dietzy I don't see that little old guy but that cute little kitten that was given to us at such a hard dark time in our life.  He brought a whole bag of naughtiness and joy in his suitcase that day.  He was the perfect gift at the most hard time.  I told someone over the weekend that he is the last connection I have to that part of my life, and when he is gone, the connection is also.

Thank you for all your kind comments over the weekend.  I know Dietzy would not want any of my tears, he just wants us to celebrate the perfect naughtiness that he was.

  4. We didn't get to check in over the weekend so here we are on Monday morning and so very sorry to hear the news about Dietzy. This sounds very similar to what we went through with our Sammy, who was also 18 years old. We will keep you all in our prayers.
