On The Road To Recovery

This is Maggie.  I am blogging for our family today. Stella is home and feeling much better.  Now, we are very behind at blogging and it will take us a whole week to catch up on what is going on around here.

Mom picked up stella at 5 on friday night...she was getting ANOTHER IV before she could go home.  She looked like a swelled up wood tick when she walked into the house, yes, my friends I laid on my back and laughed and laughed I just couldn't help it.  Apparently I am not good at keeping my promises either cos the first thing I did was try to grab her back leg and haul her across the floor.  Mom and Stellie got very grumpy at me for doing that.  I just couldn't help myself from being VERY obnoxious to her this weekend.  It must be my puppy genes coming out.  I am so glad she is home, that I peed in her new bed.  She didn't want to sleep in it anyway, she likes sleeping in the old bed with me piled on top of her!!!

Stella's Mom
I thought Stella looked really rough when I picked her up.  Her face was all dried with wet tears and she looked 100 years old. She was very upset, and cried all the way home.  I put her out in the pen with Maggie and she started barking and tearing at the fence.  She stuck to me like glue, and was so glad when I finally just sit in the recliner with her. I had to give her another bath tho cos she smelled so bad from being sick. She fell asleep and you could hear her snores all over the house.  On Saturday she was more like herself.  She is on I/D Lowfat food right now, dry and wet.  After that big bag is gone, then we will see what we need to keep her on.  She cannot have treats right now, or anything just her food.  If anyone out here has dealt with pancretitis please let me know what your feed your furkid and if you give them any veg. or treats etc.  She is still not drinking very much water, so I need to keep a close eye on that the vet told me.  I can sure tell she is feeling better tho.  I am so thankful she is home and on the mend.  We may not be blogging alot this week, but we will be reading yours.
Deb

  1. I'm so glad that Stella is home. Being home will probably go a long way in getting her better. Please skip my blog. I know how hard it is when you get behind. Sending healing wishes Stella's way. Maggie...I'm sure Stella is glad to see you, but no more pee-pee on her bed.

  2. We are so happy to hear that Stella is home and doing fairly well, considering.....

Because Lily was so dehydrated, we mixed a lot of hot water in with her soft food. She wasn't drinking at all but would eat her food and all the water that was mixed in. That kept her hydrated. Maybe break down her food into smaller portions and feed more often (with the water mixed in.) That should keep her hydrated. It is what worked for us.

We love you Stella Rose! Now get better so you can put Mag's back in her place :)

    Hugs,
Mommy Kim, Lily Belle & Muffin

  10. Naughty Maggie! Don't make me send the Sous Pug over there :) You need to be a good nurse to Stella - what would Puddles say?

I'm SO happy Stella is home with you all - that will help her on the road to recovery. No tears - she can handle this. She is a strong girl! She's probably got a touch of separation anxiety - when our little ones are sick, they want their family and I'm sure she was a bit scared going through this.

RE: the pancreatitis - Wiggs/SousPug gets 3 oz of boiled chicken and 1.5 oz of sweet potato 2x a day. He not only deals with pancreatitis flare ups but also is now diabetic :(. He was such a little imp when he had the I/D food - sadly, when the pancreatitis struck - it was way too late and he had to have surgery and a feeding tube for a month and I/D was the prescribed food. (Long Long Story). He wound up getting better and the tube was removed and moved to a home cooked diet that he's been on it ever since. Pre Sweet potato, he had 3 oz of rice with the boiled chicken or 3 oz of pasta. He also takes flagyl 2x a day and a vitamin supplement. For treats, he can occasionally have a bite of apple or banana, but when he was first diagnosed (pre-diabetes), he loved having baby carrots. Fat Free Cottage Cheese is an option and broccoli and green beans might be vet approved :) Also - before I forget - we used to mix some water in with the food to make it "soupy" and that seemed to help.

If you need anything Deb, just let me know - (aly at cookinginstilettos dot com). Pancreatitis is a battle but it can be conquered. Whatever I can do to help, lend a ear, - just let me know. There's light at the end of the rainbow - you will all get through this...

And Maggie - BEHAVE! *gives stern look*

  12. Oh Stella I am glad you are home. That vet thinking you would rest better at his place was crazy. You just cried for your Mommy. I pray that pancretitis stays away. Lee has never had a dog have it, but her friends dog did and what really helped her was eating small meals throughout the day to put minimal stress on the digestive system. This made the dog drink more water also.
Thanks for stopping by my blog

  16. Dear Stella, Stella's Mom and Maggie, I am so sorry to hear that Stella Rose has been ill. My first pug Buffy suffered from Pancreatis. We would often give her white rice with some chicken broth when she was feeling ill but then I/D food. Unfortunately, she remained sensitive and had reoccuring attack's her whole life. Just be really careful to keep Stella's weight good and to not feed a lot of fatty treats etc. I'm so sorry she has been feeling ill.

I'm so sorry you have been going through so much trauma with the dreaded vet, etc, and that your mom and Maggie have been so stressed out! I don't know much about pancreatitis at all but it looks like everyone has great advice for you! Get well soon!
