We're Really Mad

Mom doesn't like to do a mad, crabby post but she just needed to get this off her chest and she knows you guys will understand...so I let her do this post today.  We are sorry right off the bat because it is a downer post, and we like to do funny posts.

My daughter Kylei has a dog that she got from the shelter back in November.  His name is Bear.  He is such a wonderful, happy, loveable dog.  You can tell tho that he has been through trials and hurts in his life, but he has found his forever home now.
A few months ago he had to go to the vet on an emergency basis to get shaved, and have his glands done, it must be something from his past, cos he was in alot of pain and didn't handle any of it well. Well, the vet gave him to much drug to relax him and it took almost ONE WEEK for him to ALMOST get back to normal.  Just in the last few weeks, he has been more himself.  That week, he hid under their table, was shakey, scared, just not the Bear that we knew.  Since then that vet was let go and now they have a new one. (This is where the pugs go also.)

Well last Friday Kylei made another appt. to get him groomed so that wouldn't happen again, and she told the new vet what happened the last time and how she was worried about any type of drug they might give him. So they went ahead and gave him a 1/2 dose of Ketamine, it didn't help so the Vet gave him another 1/2 dose of Ketamine and he started having seizures. It took awhile to get the oxygen going, and then they had to give him some other type of anesthesia before the whole process was over.  Kylei picked him up at 400 and took him home. Now poor Bear is once again, doing things like shaking, sleeping all day, not understanding about going outside to potty and not eating or drinking much.  Kylei and I are both worried he may have had a stroke or something as serious from the Ketamine, WHICH was the SAME drug the other vet gave him.
When Kylei called the Vet yesterday to talk to her, she wouldn' t talk to Kylei but the office girl did, and told Kylei they did not give him Ketamine. Well, Kylei had the bill in front of her and it had charges for Ketamine on it.  Even when the girl figured out Kylei was correct, she never asked about Bear or was concerned with his behavior NOR did the vet call kylei back.

We are very worried about Bear and if he will be able to come out of the effects of it.  We just want him to be happy and healthy.  As far as the pugs I am not taking them back there anymore.  I told Kylei the hard lesson is we ALWAYS have to be our furkids voice because they don't have one of their own. Also, there are times we are smarter than the Vet and they need to listen to us!!!

Please keep Bear in your prayers today and his family.
Deb

  1. OMG that is awful.. We trust these people to take care of our furbabies, by Christ they charge enough.. No wonder you are mad. Can't you check with another vet from a different practice if he will suffer any long term effects..Our prayers go to Bear and all of you xx00xx

  4. Can we say holy shit? Mommy said that's not a nice word butt then again, what they did to Bear wasn't nice either!

We agree with Mollie (above). Take Bear to a different practice.

What they did was HORRIBLE and even worse, they won't talk to you about it.

We're sending bear and his family lot's of love and will be keeping our paws crossed for a good outcome.

    Hugs,

  5. How frustrating! The medicine is obviously a danger to him!!! How about giving him some Benedryl next time to make him sleepy but not out? Worth talking to a NEW vet about it.

  6. I think you all did the right thing about deciding not to go back to that veterinary office ever again...now...I think a few someone's need to go back to veterinary school...or be removed of their license.
    Much Love to poor Bear!!

  7. I'm so sorry. It does seem like there has been some sort of neurological impact. I would have him seen by another office if you can. Bear and his family are in my prayers.

  8. Oh, poor Bear! GRRRRR. I'm glad they have good friends, like you, to help them speak up and find good help.

  9. I'm so sorry to read this! I hope he'll be fine. Can't they just muzzle him when he needs work done? I've never been in that situation with a dog (a couple of my dogs have been afraid at the vet's but never reactive).

I hope you'll have a good update about him soon. In the meantime - yes, it sounds like a new vet is needed!

  10. I'm SO sorry but you are right to voice your frustration. I went through this once with one of the SousPug's vets and I wound up going to a new practice and they essentially saved his life. Blast that vet and blast them hard and if you need help, I have a stiletto that I can throw right at them.

Prayers are with Bear that he gets better soon! He might also be sensitive to meds so they should give him a half dose - just to be sure. *hugs*

  11. Poor Bear. That is a disgrace. I would go down there and give them a piece of my mind and I'd report them. There must be some kind of good practice organisation you can report them too. Disgusting. Bear is in our thoughts and our paws are tightly crossed.
    Best wishes Molly

  13. You betcha, our paws are crossed and we will good thoughts over the air waves to him. Yep, gotta watch these vets, we go to one that was recommended by three furpals and has been in bus for many years. Dad says you might touch base with a lawyer, cause now the vet place is trying to lie!

  18. Bear is certainly in my thoughts today and I am sending him some super duper EXTRA special Noodles Juju as well. Good thing your Mom found out before she had something happen to you!

  19. Oh poor Bear. We have paws crossed he recovers asap. We think you should visit another vet with Bear and your daughter and just have him checked out and to have a chat. I would ask to speak to the old Vet too, without poor Bear, just to discuss what happened. Whoever manages the Vet practice surely would not want this happening in their business. Maybe the Manager/Head Vet doesn't even know!!
No worries, and love, Carol (and Stella and Rory)

  20. Dreadful and infuriating! Please do all a favor and post this story on browser search sites where you can rate this vet - poorly - so that others will be warned...

  21. Paws crossed for Bear. How sad. I realize how lucky I am to have a friend who is a vet. I hope it works out for him and he finds a wonderful, loving vet in the future.

  26. Oh, that's scary. No wonder your mom is angry. We sure hope Bear will be okay. Don't blame you for changing vets!

  27. Poor Bear! I can't believe the second vet came him the SAME bad drug!! We'll keep our paws crossed that he gets better real soon.

  28. I so hope Bear is okay! Just the fact they were telling you they didn't use ketamine, and it clearly stated it on your bill, and the outcome of what has happened to Bear they should at the least be fully re embarrassing you on whatever they did and checking up on him even more so then regularly. If not they could get in big trouble for doing all this to poor little bear and not even trying to help him. It is astonishing to me. Bear is in my and kirbys thoughts!

  29. Poor Bear that is horrific. I definitely think a new vet is in order. I always ask tons of questions of my vets and ask to see a detailed plan for any surgery if they balk at all then a new vet for me. Most good vets appreciate it because they like to see a concerned owner, you are right we are their voice
