REVIEW: TRUE CHEWS

Good Morning To All My Blogging Friends.  This is the first time we are doing a review for  Chewy.com and our product that we picked to review is called True Chews-Lils Beef Bully Twists.  These twists are for dogs up to 20 lbs.

We love love love bully sticks and Mom has gotten us in the past the straight sticks, the twisted sticks, the twirled sticks, from different stores and we just love them all.  So of course when Mom was looking at all the products we could review we had to choose True Chews Twists.

We were so excited when they arrived at our house on Tuesday along with some dog food mom had ordered through the company.

AGAIN IGNORE THE WRONG DATE

These sticks are made from only Beef Pizzle and natural smoke flavor with no rawhide or fillers involved.  They suggest you always keep water available because they can make you thirsty and of course to supervise whenever you give your pets treats.  We know you guys are grossed out about the pizzle part but we don't care cos we are pizzle con-a-sewers .

True Chews makes a number of treats for your dog such as Chicken Fillets, Beef Sticks and Pig Ears. The company is located in Independence Iowa so of course you would find a pig something in their list...lol.....Since we live in Iowa we thought this was the perfect choice.

Negatives -

• Maggie was able to crunch it up and tried to eat it.  We had to take her stick away from her cos Mom was afraid she would choke on it.
• I started to chew on it, but laid it aside and went to lay on the pee pad instead, I guess I was in the guarding mood not the chewing mood.
• Baby Gus chewed on his alot, but Mom had to take his away from him cos she noticed on the chewed end there was some toothie blood on it. It must have been to sharp in his mouth and he cut his gums.

Answering Some Questions

Yesterday on our Post we were asked several questions most of them REFERRING to Baby Gus and I thought I should be the spokespug for our family.  We thought for today's Wordless Wednesday Post we would answer them.  (yes, the concept of Wordless is totally lost on my mom)

1. Mary Ann asked us about our USB cord and if it ever got to us from the jungles of the Amazon.com.  Actually, Mary Ann it arrived at our house on MOnday. You can imagine Mom's happiness and plans of downloading the 120,000.00 pictures she has taken of us and the grandmonsters, BUTT the camera wouldn't turn on.  Mom rushed to the store and bought new batteries, BUTT it still won't turn on.  Tonight Mom is going to check just to make sure she has them in correctly.  Enuf said about MY mom and batteries. (Mary Ann when Mom got home she realized she had put the batteries in wrong several times...we now have a working camera!!)

We don't know why the date is screwy but this is Mom, Macey, and Kenna the day they took the puppies to meet their rescue people.


2. Murphy and Stanley wanted to know JUST HOW BIG Baby Gus is now, cos from MOM's pictures he looks pretty big.  Almost as big as Rory. Well, he weighed in at the Vets a whooping 9.5 lbs. which shows us he has grown from 2.5 lbs. that he weighed when he was 3 months old.  I think its true about a camera making you look 10 lbs. bigger cos he still is pretty small, just tall.  Mom thought he would be short and stubby  like me, (MOM!!!!) but I think I must have broken the mold!!   Murphy and Stanley also asked about his stitches from his boy surgery.  They used self-dissolving stitches and not glue.  That is probably a good thing cos when Mom went home today to check on him, he was a swinging on the lampshade in the kitchen.  We think its time for mom to dial down the pain pills.

3. The pugs from Idaho thought maybe he was behaving that way (crying, bawling,  screaming, and shaking) cos he was coming out of his anesthesia.  Yep, your right guys that is exactly what was going on, or he was faking it ...I am still not sure.

4.  Frankie and Ernie suggested we get that squirt cheese that comes in a can so he will take his pills from now on.  Well, all I know is if it doesn't work for him nothing is lost cos Dad and I sure will chow down on that can of cheese cos we both love it.  Mom often wonders when she sees Dad squirt that lovely cheese in his mouth, IF he knows she shares it with me also.  Molly the Wally said jam and peanut butter also...ummm Molly that sounds just wonderful to me, but Gussie is very very very picky about what he does and doesn't like.

5. MOM at the Slimmer PUgs suggested pill pockets, which Mom is getting when she goes to the vet today to get my nails cut.  Hopefully those things will help trick us when we need medicine.

Well thanks again for all your kind comments this week.  Mom is glad the surgery and visits to the vet is over till next time we need our shots.  Have a great hump day...oh yeah that is one thing Gussie still thinks he can do to Maggie, the Vet said to give him a couple of months to stop.....Poor Maggie.

This is Maggie asking for a treat.  See the dried glue on the Kitchen floor and the pretty hardwood under it.  Mom has slowly been scraping if off when she is not working it is taking 100 years to do it.

Angus McConnell Long

Baby Gus as Mom calls him, which is a joke now cos he ain't no baby no more....is on the mend and up and running around today.  Just how are we supposed to keep a growing boy down for two weeks!!! 

Yesterday was a little rough but all in all we survived and so did Gussie.  First, Mom ran and got him right after his surgery.  She was a little concerned that they didn't keep him very long, but she had to trust the vet knew what she was doing. Or they thought Mom knew what she was doing....anyway mom took him home and left him with Dad.  Dad called less than one hour later and said Gus was crying and breathing funny and shaking.  Mom called her Boss and said she needed to go home.  Her Boss doesn't have a wife, or kids, or pets, so she had to fake a headache cos ....he wouldn't understand the NEED to go home and take care of Gus. 

When she got home, Dad was fretting and Gus was sleeping on the couch.  Dad couldn't get his pain pill down and it had dissolved in food by that time, and Gus wouldn't take it.  Gus looked pretty dopey but he did cry out alot when he moved so Mom being THE MOM proceeded to stick the pill down his throat.  It took awhile but she finally got it down there.  (she tried it in everything imaginable and she was afraid she would go through his pills so she had to resort to brut force which upset her greatly)  Anyway she held him for a few hours on the couch while he slept. 

Finally she got the crate out and made it all comfy and put him in there.  He made baby noises, and Dad got all upset and took him back out.  Mom wanted to give Dad the pain pill and knock his #** out but she kept her cool.  So she sat back down on the couch with all of us, and he slept some more.  Finally, around bedtime he got up and drank some water and used the puppy pad.  YAY GUSSIE!!!!  

Mom and Dad were worried since they now sleep in the other room that they wouldn't hear him if he started to hurt in the middle of the night so Dad being Dad blew up the air mattress and offered to sleep with him in the family room.  (Times like that is the reason Mom loves Dad)   He lasted till around 1:00 am and had to come get in bed with Mom cos the mattress was not comfortable.

When Mom got up for work this morning all three of us came running to her, Gussie included!!  Mom put us outside for awhile, drank her coffee, fed us breakfast and got ready for work.  Gussie was back to normal.  YAY!!!  Mom is gonna get him his benadryl today and try and figure out how the heck to get him to take it.  Thanks for all the comments yesterday, once again blogville stepped up to show its caring and loving heart, the real world didn't even ask.

GUS

Gus is home now and doing fine.  The new vet sent some pain pills which I was happy she gave these to him. It was the first time any of our pugs have received pain management after their surgeries.  He is still pretty dopey but went right to their bed when I dropped him off with Dad.  She also said his eyes weren't as bad as she first thought, that he can see around the damaged areas, but of course has bad dry eyes issue because his lids do not shut all the way.  She sent him med's for that also.  She suggested children's benadryl. for his itching, I am going to wait till he feels better to give him that cos I don't want to overload his little system.  She said he is a bit of a baby cos even BEFORE they gave him his shots he was screaming...yep that is our Gussie!!

Curly, Mo and Larry

Remember the three stooges, well that is who momma, gus and mag's reminded us of on Sunday.  Mom, decided Maggie and Gussie were being way to rambunctious and they needed to get rid of some energy....so she made plans to take them out to the fairgrounds for some much needed exercise.  First, tho she walked me all around the yard, so i could ran around my beloved "crab apple" tree and eat any little apple that had fallen to the ground.  I LOVE CRAB APPLES.  Then I ran up to the big apple tree that is so loaded this year, that the branches are laying on the ground, but mom said they are not ready yet to eat.  This is  the second year in all the years they have lived here that there have been apples.  Then Mom decided I needed to go back into the house, cos I was getting hot but I dug my heals into the ground, locked my knees up and refused to budge.  Mom had to carry me into the house..bahahhaha.....

Then she got Gus and Mags ready for their walk.  She decided to use the coupler that she had purchased from the jungle of the amazon, after she saw Zim and Cammie using one to walk together.  Oh my pug what a site, Mom is trying to get them out the door, they are all wrapped around her legs, and each other, finally she got them to the car, and then when she opened the door for them to magically jump in, gussie jumped in, maggie did not, which pulled gussie back out of the car and thus they ended up wrapped all around momma again.  Dad said we could have won the $10,000 prize for Funniest Home Videos for sure.

Finally, they made it to the fairground, and after a couple of false starts they started walking down the path.  First, Gussie pulled Maggie to the side, then Maggie pulled Gussie to the side, then they wrapped around Mom's feet and so forth.  Mom said she kept on chanting in her head, BE CALM, BE CALM, ENJOY THIS TIME TOGETHER....and before you know it, they were walking beside each other and they all were enjoying the quiet time of the walk.

Mom realized while she was watching them, that Gussie actually is taller than Maggie, when did that happen!!??   Gussie also was never nervous and actually enjoyed every minute.  Mags was a little more anxious but she still had a good time.  Mom and her pugs walked about 20 minutes then because it was warm out decided she had better get them home.

Once home, they both got drinks and ran around about 5 minutes, and after that they feel asleep three whole hours, and then went straight to bed for the night!  Mom plans on taking Maggie back out tonight if it is not to hot BUT Gussie will be resting up cos today he has his little boy surgery at the new vet.  Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers today.  We will let you know later today that everything went just fine.

P.S. Gussie was pretty mortified this morning when he pranced into the vet's office wearing Mag's pink harness.  His blue one Mom ordered him through Mr. Chewy hasn't been delivered yet.

Dear Stella Rose, Maggie and Angus

Dear Stella Rose, Maggie, and Angus:

First, of all I want you to know how much I love being your Momma and how blessed we are to have you in our lives.  I have been thinking alot though about what it takes to be a good mom to YOU guys and realized I have made some mistakes, and I am going to try real hard to work on them.

My first mistake Stella Rose was to refer to you, mags and gussie as a puppy mill pugs because that is not a label I needed to give to you.  You know where you came from, and I saw where you came from, but who needs that type of label.  My only excuse is I was so happy to take you out of there and it made me feel so good that I was doing  a good thing, that I forgot no one needs labels stuck to them for life. So I am sorry for this. I think by feeling sorry for you since the day I brought you home that I didn't give you the chance to show us all the things that you can do. I also felt sorry for you cos of your sight issues, and now realize I could have challenged you a bit more than I did.  The lesson that you have taught me is to not put my pugs in a comfort zone, and to challenge them, and train them just as you would any other dog.

I am going to try to work harder at not putting my emotions over into your lives, and to train each of you to your best ability.  I want to enjoy my time with you, and I know you want to enjoy your time with the family.  Last night we had such a relaxing evening.  You all played outside, and you followed the rules when you were all three sitting on my lap. I started to realize I am in charge of the household and you look to me for guidance, just like when I raised our three little girls.  Now I need to step up and be what you need.

I love that I have been given this wonderful opportunity to have you in our lives, and I appreciate the lessons you all try so hard to teach me.

MOM IS MADDER THAN MAD AND POTP

Before I get to my riveting story for the day I wanted to share with you about Miss Prissy over at  Mona, Weenie, & The Mommy, Too.  This next paragraph is what the Slimmer Pug's momma wrote in her post today.  Please stop over to Prissy's page to let them know you are thinking of them.
Please send her your best power of the paw, crossed-paws, and prayers.  From what Miss Sarah (the mommy) told our mama it deals with a mass in one of the following areas: the pancreas, the liver, or the spleen.  The good news is that whatever it is has been shrinking since she went to the vet Monday evening; however, they are unsure at this time which organ is affected and what the diagnosis is at this time.  Please pray for mama Sarah and Mona as they need the support during this difficult time.

Here is the old view of Alcatraz that Mom and her son in law built for us last year.  Notice it does NOT go clear up to the steps of our back porch.  Well a few weeks ago Mom decided she was tired of carrying us back and forth, back and forth, cos as soon as she puts us down to walk calmly into the gate of Alcatraz all three of us would run as fast as our little pug legs would carry us and scatter to the winds throughout our yard.  Mom would freak out and have a almost heart attack, and say bad words, and cry .....and she just decided she was going to change things.
So......one night while Dad was at work, she added onto Alcatraz and made the fence go right against the back door so all she had to do is open the door and we could run down the steps and be in a safe area.  Mom was glad, we were glad, Dad was mad.  He didn't want the fence bigger and didn't see what the big deal was about carrying us, or us running around ....Mom may have said some real bad words and just ignored what he said UNTIL last night when mom came home from work and when she pulled into the driveway her new fence was GONE...GONE LIKE THE WIND....she was stunned....she walked into the door and Dad was chuckling and said he fixed it back as it was cos he was tired of us digging holes close to the house etc.

Remember those fireworks I told you about yesterday with the buzzards, well they were NOTHING compared to the words that came out of our Mom's mouth.  Gussie and I hid behind the couch and of course Maggie was taking notes so she could practice saying those bad words later in front of the mirror. Mom was so mad and upset and bawling....just plain MAD.  She refused to talk to Dad at all last night, and later he TRIED to fix it but that didn't turn out well either.  MOM is going to talk to her son in law and this weekend they are gonna fix it good where DAD can't tear it up and she doesn't have to carry us all out to the fence again.  She didn't even kiss DAD goodbye this morning when she went to work, and he called later and asked her if she did.  She said NO.  DAD is really in the doghouse, big time this time and I think Mom is going to stay mad for awhile, well at least until the new better improved fence gets put up.  Sometimes those humans that we dearly love make life so much harder than it needs to be.

ps. Mom wanted to know if any of you have had to deal with dogs digging holes around the fence and what you did about it?
